Spyridon (Spyros) Haviaris (Director) was born in Piraeus, Greece in 1945 where he attended elementary and secondary schools. In 1973 he graduated from New York Institute of Technology having earned a BSc. in Marketing. In 1977 he earned a Master of Science degree, on Shipping Operations from New York State University. He worked as assistant Operation Manager in the Krina Campania Naviera SA. Three years later he started his career as a consultant with various private and governmental shipping companies. In 1982 he joined Astakos Shipbreaking and Shipbuilding Corp., a ship demolition and repair facility, as their General Manager. The Company became engaged in developing a new site in Western Part of Greece. At the same time, Spyros entered into joint ventures for operating vessels with other multinational companies. Mr. Haviaris was responsible for the chartering and operations in those ventures. In 1995 with a number of colleagues, decided to form HART Shipping Corp where he is still one of the shareholders and Directors.

Michael N. Petrakakos (Technical Manager) was born in Piraeus, Greece, in 1951, where he attended elementary and secondary schools. Mr. Petrakakos, graduated from New York University in 1975, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and in 1976 he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology having earned his Master of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He began his career at the Chemical Tankers Newbuildings department of Marine Transport Lines of New York. Two years later, Michael joined a group of consultants where he acted as a Marine Claims expert. He has since acted as an independent technical consultant and expert witness for a number of shipping companies, insurance companies and shipyards in Greece and abroad. Mr. Petrakakos joined HART Shipping Corp. as Technical Manager in 1995. He is also Managing Director of P&P Marine Consultants, the Technical Arm of HART Shipping Corp, and oversees the construction of HART’s Newbuilding Projects in China.

Captain Dimitris Chatziyannis (Fleet Operations Manager) heads our Ship Management team, and is responsible for ISM and ISPS compliance. He has served as Master on a plethora of tankers and bulk carriers since 1980, and has been working ashore at our head office since 1999. His background encompasses a wide variety of sea-based experiences with a commercial mentality ensuring our clients needs are met to the fullest, while keeping high maintenance and performance standards for our vessels.
